Play the syllables. This is a concept that has been and still is used by legendary musicians. The human voice is the original, and some would argue ultimate, instrument. On mandolin we cannot capture all the subtlety of the voice, but we can closely match the rhythm of the melody. When you play the syllables, you are doing exactly that.

Learning this intricate and detailed vocal rhythm will take some careful, detailed and repetitive listening practice. Use the Tunefox player and tempo slider to listen slowly and repeatedly. Use the focus feature to listen to individual measures with particularly tough rhythms. Measures 4 & 8 will likely require some extra listening and playing practice. Listen to the original recording as well.

PAY ATTENTION to the pick direction markings in the mandolin tablature and follow them closely.
