John Rigsby was a Clinch Mountain boy. That means he had the honor of being an official member of Ralph Stanley's band. Ralph was an early architect of bluegrass. He was part of the first generation and a true legend of the genre. It's a big deal for someone to have been his band. John also played with Ralph Stanley II and they recorded a duet album, "Clinch Mountain Echos: Songs in the Stanley Tradition". He's done stints with other prominent groups and works mostly as a mandolin or fiddle player

This solo here is based on his playing with Ralph Stanley II. John takes a very strong Monroe style approach by playing out of the chop chord shape and using some strong Monroe style lick vocabulary. If you love bluegrass and want to learn authenticity in this style it's important to study masters of the genre like John Rigsby.

There's a lot of detail in the mandolin tablature. Listen and read carefully each time you practice. You might need to change the settings in Tunefox to 1 or 2 measures per row to better see all the intricacies here.
