Some Ideas for Next Steps

Now that you've mastered timing and never get off beat...I hope none of you believe that. We never truly master steady beat, and we will always be working for a greater degree of control in our playing with regards to timing, tone, dynamic control and so on. This is an exercise you should come back to regularly, no matter what else you are playing. Think of it as hitting the gym. Do it a few times a week. Try to apply this concept to other rolls you know as well. Create new accent patterns, work on dynamics. Increasing your control over these fundamentals will make you a better banjo player.

Strive for the evenness of timing and control you are able to achieve with this exercise in every song you play. If you are digging this deep dive into timing and control, then check out the one finger workouts. Besides that the Tunefox world and beyond is your oyster. Just focus on steady beat, even timing and dynamic control!
