Basic Picking Patterns for Waltz Time
3 beats per measure
These basic crosspicking patterns will give you a framework to begin playing in ¾ time. The first one is based off of a way to play rhythm in that same time signature: “Boom, Chick-a Chick-a”. The second has a dotted eight note before the 3 16th notes. This gives a slight delay and a lot of movement at the end of the pattern. Playing this way helps to simultaneously give and move the music from measure to measure very well. The two patterns are labeled “A”, and “B”. USE THE LOOPER TO PRACTICE EACH SECTION INDIVIDUALLY. After you feel you are playing the pattern smoothly...keep practicing.
