Alternate Picking

Adding in the Up Stroke

Alternate picking refers to alternating between playing downstrokes and upstrokes with your picking hand.

For this exercise you want the momentum of your downstroke to influence your upstroke. It's not an incredibly easy thing to accomplish right off the bat so be patient with yourself and don't try to play fast right now. You'll get better with time but only as long as you can lay a good technical foundation for yourself.

Play four notes per string for this exercise and in the next lesson we'll go over two notes.
