Start out with the melody you always want to lay and understanding the foundation on which you are building a complex arrangement, or basing an improv on. There's a few licks that give you a taste on how those variations can spring forth from a simple melody. we have this available in the high or lower octave in double C tuning. Explore both of them. It will get you familiar with playing it in two different places and give you a foundation to build breaks in two different octaves. It's great to be able to play a break in two places. If you are at a jam and get the nod twice, you'll be able to have some variation for yourself, your fellow pickers and any spectators that are enjoying the jam
The clawhammer versions are also available in two octaves. These directly build off the foundation laid in the melody, so please learn those before diving into this one. The licks in this one are more complex, but you can always use those Tunefox features to simplify, slow down, or focus on a piece at a time.
Lastly, it you are a fan of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, then you should definitely check out the McEuen Style version of this tune. This one is a transcription of his playing from "Will the Circle be Unbroken: Vol. III". He uses a lot of space, and there is more subtlety going on than can really be put into tablature, so make sure to listen to the original recording as part of your practice. Listening is so important! Some of the licks will give you alternate options to simplify tough passages, there's also just some cool variations to add in with the original.
Alright, now is the time! Jump in and have fun.
