Greg Cahill is the founder of Special Consensus, a legendary band from the Chicago area. Greg blends Scruggs style with melodic and single string playing in such an elegant and unique way. He also adds his own twists to Scruggs style playing that often create a sonic illusion as if he is playing in the melodic style!
Check out how he uses the single string run in measure 7 as a lead in to measure 8. This is a great way to use a different picking style to create interest and variety while staying rooted in the Scruggs style for the prototypical bluegrass sound. Use the "cool stuff" sparingly and it can have an even greater effect.
Another cool element to notice, and re-use, is the anticipated attack for those standard Scruggs style lead in notes at the end of measures 4 & 8. This creates such a interesting sound! Make sure to try and play this one with the swing feature engaged to get the sort of "doo-wop" feel that this tune often has.
