Always start with the melody! Your memorization and musicality when playing this will be much enhanced if you practice singing the words as you play. If you don't know the words you need to practice listening to the song. Listen daily until the tune becomes memorized. Listen to a recording by an artist you enjoy and listen to the Tunefox player before each practice session. Listening is practice and it is important!
The licks here can show you how to embellish a simple melody to get a more full banjo sound. The Scruggs licks incorparate some basic rolls with melody notes, and Scruggs #2 riffs have fretting hand embellishments incorporated with rolls. These are much more "authentic" sounding, but also can be more challenging. Use the focus feature to listen to and practice them repeatedly at a speed you can handle before trying them in the context of the song. There's also a few basic single string licks to try.
