Sammy Shelor plays a lot of tunes out of Double C or Sawmill tuning. Those are a lot more common with old-time and clawhammer players, but they can work great on modal tunes and tunes we usually would play out of C shapes. Basically any time we have tunes where we don't play the open B a lot. Sammy's uses of pinches is one of the many cool and unique aspects of his playing. He also has incredible groove and timing and always seems to twist common Scruggs phrases in a very interesting way..
